First demercaptanization unit to start by March 2020
ASSALUYEH – the first demercaptanization (DMC) unit of phases 2&3 will start by March 20, 2020.

Having operated the demercapitanization unit, it will be possible to treat 80000 barrels of gas condensate a day in phases 2 and 3. Project manager, Siros Peykar, was quoted by public relations as saying.

Project manager explained about the latest conditions of the project in a variety of steps such as engineering, equipment supply, construction and execution which have approximately made 97, 92, and 60 percent of progress respectively. By and large, this project has made 78 percent of progress.

As the land handed over by South Pars Gas Complex (SPGC), the executive operations started in early fall of 2017 and major parts of heavy equipment required to the unit including pressure vessels, reactors, towers, and thermal transformers was installed.

According to Peykar, DMC unit is being constructed for the first time in south pars refineries and has no other similar units.

Having exploited the project, mercaptan compounds existing in gas condensate, which causes not only refining equipment corrosion but also environmental pollutions due to high volatility, will turn into non-corrosive and non-volatile stable compounds. This process results in generating sweetened gas condensate products of much higher quality and value added than current sour gas condensate.
