South Pars Oil Layers are located at 100 kilometers from Iran shoreline at the depth of 900 to 1200 meters below seabed. The main structure of the oil layers is in Qatar known as Al-Shahin field. Structure of the field at the Iranian side was identified in 1988 and 1989 by seismic data. Three appraisal wells were drilled between years 2000 and 2002 and development of the field was assigned through a buy back contract for production of 35000 barrels of oil per day to PetroIran Development Company in 2005. Production from the field was commenced in 2017 utilizing an FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading).
